Born in the Japanese prefecture of Yamanashi, Fujimoto started his career with Tokyo Verdy where he came through the youth ranks before making his senior bow in a J2 League game against JEF United Chiba in 2018.
His first goal for the club came against Fagiano Okayama in June 2018 and just two years later, the midfielder made the switch to Europe as he signed for Portuguese side Gil Vicente in an initial loan deal for the 2020/21 season.
He made his Gil Vicente bow against Santa Clara in October 2020 and notched his first goal for the club against Sporting Lisbon in February 2021.
His move was made permanent at the end of the season and in 2021/22 he made 32 league starts as Gil Vicente finished fifth in Primeira Liga and qualifying for the UEFA Conference League.
Fujimoto featured in the qualifiers as his side failed to reach the group stages, but Gil Vicente consolidated their position in the top-flight of Portuguese football with a series of mid-table finishes.
The 25-year-old, who primarily plays as a number 10, made 10 goal contributions in 30 games last season and can also play slightly deeper as an orthodox number eight.
At international level, Fujimoto has been capped by Japan at both Under-19 and Under-20 level.
