FIRST MEN'S TEAM

Scott Wright signed for Blues on Friday morning – and BCFC.com has profiled his story so far.

Scott Wright was born on Friday 8 August 1997 in Aberdeen, being raised in the small North East village of Balmedie and attending Bridge of Don Academy for his secondary education.

By this point, he was firmly entrenched in the academy system of his birthplace's football club and at 16-years-old, against FK Daugava, in a July 2014 UEFA Europa League Qualifier, he became one of their youngest-ever debutants, featuring in both legs of an 8-0 aggregate victory.

Later that summer, he agreed first professional contract, initially for three years, and over the next four seasons the Dons finished runners-up to Celtic in each, also reaching a trio of domestic cup finals. During this period, the winger steadily embedded himself into first-team matters and memorably notched a hat-trick away to Partick Thistle on the final day of 2016/17.

The following campaign, 2017/18, Wright played 19 times in all competitions for Aberdeen and by January 2019, despite being set to comfortably surpass this total, he was loaned to Dundee where he served up seven goal involvements in 13 matches.

In total, he made 79 appearances for Aberdeen, scoring seven goals, before in the 2021 winter transfer window, a previously struck pre-contract agreement was trumped when Rangers and the Pittodrie hierarchy agreed to fast-track the respective purchases and sales of Wright and Ross McCrorie.

His move to Ibrox provided additional firepower to Steven Gerrard's team as they sped towards a first league title in nine years, with the new acquisition scoring his first Gers goal to earn a point at St. Johnstone in the April.

12 months on, he had truly starred for the Light Blues, making 37 appearances as they battled for silverware both domestically and on the European stage. Their heartbreaking May 2022 UEFA Europa League Final loss on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville was a blow cushioned just three days later when Wright's extra-time goal sealed a 34th Scottish Cup at Hampden Park.

He went on to represent Rangers alongside now Birmingham City teammate Ben Davies in the UEFA Champions League Group Stages and last year, back at the national stadium, completed his collection of honours when edging his former club, Aberdeen, to the Scottish League Cup.

The Scotsman has worn his nation's colours at youth level, up to Under-21s, having been a UEFA European Under-17s Championship semi-finalist in 2014 and Toulon Tournament bronze medallist three years later.
