Birmingham City Under-21s produced a fine performance as they held Arsenal to a goalless draw in Premier League 2 on Friday afternoon.
After Tyrese Warmington kept them in the game in the first half, Scott Sellars' side grew in confidence after the interval but could not make their chances count.
Blues came into the contest with confidence after an impressive win against Gillingham on Tuesday night but the Gunners started as the better of the two teams.
The first chance was through the visitors when Ceadach O’Neill cut inside and forced Warmington to tip his dipping strike around the post.
Arsenal continued to up the pressure and struck the upright through Andre Harriman-Annous with a curling effort.
Blues continued to battle in what was a first half with a lack of clear-cut chances, but Warmington was forced into action twice in quick succession on the half-hour mark.
A defence-splitting pass from Elijah Upson found Maalik Hashi, whose bobbling strike was pushed away by the Blues goalkeeper.
The resulting corner saw the best chance of the game where Arsenal would have been ahead if not for Warmington’s brilliance.
A defensive scramble resulted in Harrison-Annous poke an attempt that was heading for the top corner, but Blues’ shot stopper was at full stretch to save with a strong hand to deny him.
Sellars’ side grew into the game after the interval and had their first threatening opportunity. A powerful counter attack saw Jack Quirk switch to Finn McGreevy, who created space and fired an effort narrowly off target.
Taha Elmansuri found himself free on the edge of the penalty area a few minutes later, but could not test Khari Ranson in the Arsenal goal with a whipped attempt.
Blues continued their second-half momentum as substitute Tobey Ugorji could not get enough dip on his shot after trying his luck from distance.
Despite getting into some dangerous positions in the final stages, Blues could not create any more clear-cut chances as the points were shared at the Knighthead Performance Centre.
